The Estepona City Council announces that the city will host the celebration of France Day and Francophone Culture for the second consecutive year. Deputy Mayor for the Outskirts Area, Begoña Ortiz, and the head of the Alliance Française delegation in Estepona, Florine Lafont, presented the program of activities organized for this celebration, which will take place in Estepona from tomorrow, November 19, until December 2.
Ortiz explained that this initiative is part of the municipal project 'Sharing Cultures,' which aims to promote the integration of the Francophone community in the municipality, which already has more than 1,800 French-speaking residents. The councilwoman pointed out that “Estepona is a multicultural place, and events like this help strengthen the bonds between all residents, fostering understanding and respect.” In this regard, she emphasized that the activities have been designed to offer the public a vibrant showcase of French, Belgian, and Swiss culture and traditions, coinciding with the celebration of the emblematic 'Beaujolais Nouveau,' a festival held every third Thursday of November to celebrate the harvest of young red wine from the Beaujolais region in Burgundy, France.
For her part, Florine Lafont, head of the Alliance Française in Estepona, detailed the program of activities and emphasized the importance of bringing Francophone culture closer to the local population. “We are very excited to offer Estepona a taste of the Francophone world with activities representative of our culture. It is a unique opportunity to enjoy our gastronomy, film, and music in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere,” she stated.
The program will begin on Wednesday, November 19, with the opening of an exhibition inspired by the work 'A World Without End,' which offers a captivating glimpse into the encounter between Jean-Marc Jancovici and Christophe Blain, exploring their dialogue on energy and climate change. The exhibition will be on display at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.
On November 20th and 21st, at 7:30 pm, the Contemporary Culture Library at Mirador del Carmen will host a screening of the film 'Les Choristes'. Those interested can make a reservation at f.lafont@afmalaga.e
On Saturday, November 22nd, the traditional petanque competition will be held between 10:00 and 12:00, followed by an introductory course to this traditional sport from 12:00 to 13:00.
That same day, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Chess Square will be transformed into a Grand Francophone Market, where visitors can enjoy representative French cuisine such as crepes, cheeses, wines, and the iconic Beaujolais Nouveau, as well as stalls selling decorations, art, and Christmas gifts. The festive atmosphere will be accompanied by live musical performances.
